I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. I studied Communication Design here at Emily Carr University, and painted in my free time. After working in design for a while, I realized I took a greater sense of self-worth from painting, so I actively moved to pursue that. I’ve been painting heavily for the past two years, and really finding I’m starting to make strides now.
What does art and design means to you?
Art and design mean communication. Whether that’s ideas, emotions, dreams, or anything else, it about providing the viewer with something of value.
How would you define your personal style?
A mix of realism and impressionism and abstraction.
What is the process of your work? What kind of materials do you use?
It starts off the canvas with sketches or ideas or me brainstorming around an idea. From there I photograph everything, compile it all, and then start the painting. I work in oils, mainly on canvas.
How do you get your inspiration?
By doing. I mean, I take in as much visual information as I can, and try to constantly ideate painting concepts... but it doesn’t mean anything if you aren’t constantly doing work. That’s the best way to have really great ideas: by having a lot of them.
What are your most critical challenges in your work?
My critical challenge is knowing when to stop. There’s times when I push things too far, or force myself to do just a little bit more. I have to learn to walk away at points.
| What are some of your goals?
Right now I’m applying for my masters, so that’s my largest goal: getting into an amazing school and pursuing art full board.
What s your dream?
To live and work and travel as an artist. I want to impact people’s lives with my work.
What is your motto in your work and life?
